Weekend of Preparations
Saturday, 27 September 2014 & Sunday, 28 September 2014
Weekends provide me with an opportunity to dedicate quality time to training and preparations for the Last Desert Race in Antarctica.
However, after a few hectic weeks of training, including various races and long runs, I lacked enthusiasm for any heavy training over the past two days. My legs felt heavy and tired, and as a result, I decided to take it easy.
But preparing for the race entails more than just training. We have been given an extensive list of compulsory and optional gear, equipment, nutrition and related items to take with us to Antarctica, and it is quite an exercise to get everything organised and finalised in time. I have made good progress in this regard over the weekend and, with the exception of a few minor items, is almost ready to pack my bags!
Looking ahead, and with five weeks to go before the start of the race, I have a hectic business travel schedule during this period which will no doubt impact on my final training and preparations. But there is no time for excuses, just focus and vasbyt!
The countdown continues…
I’m excited about the race in Antarctica and the challenge of raising R250 000 for a Greenpeace Africa solar energy project, and encourage you to support my efforts and the work of Greenpeace Africa!
Please make a donation and encourage others to do the same.
