Greetings from Camp 4 at the end of Stage 3.
If yesterday was tough, today was just brutal.
Ryan and I needed 7h35 to complete 39.9km. We passed 20km under 3 hours, but thereafter it was just a long slog over salt mushrooms, “crusty ploughed mud”, sandy plains, slate rocks, up and down sand dunes, through canyons and a final steep climb into camp.
I don’t feel as tired as after stage 2, but my feet are a mess. Will have to do some serious patch work tonight.
Otherwise everything is ok. Although the terrain is very tough for running/walking, the surrounding landscape is just amazing to look at. I hope the photos and videos that you see on the website do justice to this.
Tomorrow’s fourth stage is 44km and will be another test of mental and physical strength. And then the long march to follow on day 5…
Remember to visit http://www.sunflowerfund.org.za to learn more about the work of The Sunflower Fund and how you make a contribution.
Until tomorrow.
