Calling on Your Support – We Can END Neglected Tropical Diseases in Africa

26 days to the start of the 2016 Grand to Grand Ultra

Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a group of diseases affecting 1.5 billion people globally and, as the name suggests, affect the most neglected and impoverished people. These diseases cause severe pain, long-term disability, and death, while decreasing children’s attendance in school and contributing to extreme poverty.

The good news is that these diseases are both treatable and preventable!TheENDFund_Roundel-01 (1)

A study conducted by Erasmus University projects that Sub-Saharan Africa could save $52 billion by 2030, and gain the equivalent of 100 million life-years, if the region meets the World Health Organisation’s 2020 control and elimination targets for the five most common NTDs.

These statistics should inspire everyone involved in the fight against NTDs, and committed to improving the lives of millions of people across the continent, to intensify and accelerate their efforts.

That is why I am dedicating the personal challenge of completing the 273km Grand to Grand Ultra from 25 September – 1 October 2016 to raise public awareness about NTDs, highlight the work of the END Fund, and mobilise $10 000 in support of the END Fund’s work in Africa.

Your donation will support the END Fund as follows:

  • $25 helps treat 50 people at risk of NTDs for one year
  • $40 supports one essential eye surgery to prevent blindness from trachoma
  • $100 helps treat 200 people at risk of NTDs for one year
  • $250 helps treat 500 people at risk of NTDs for one year
  • $500 helps treat 1 000 people at risk for NTDs for one year

I invite you to support my fundraising campaign and encourage others to do the same.

Together, we can END the neglect!
